Pete Lachapelle
President/Publisher
Graduating with a Marketing Degree from Boston College in 1978, Pete has been in the publishing business since 1979. Having been publisher on eleven different titles, he has worked for some of the largest trade publishing companies in the country and has focused on the food industry for over 30 years.

He began selling ad space for Bakery Production & Marketing in 1983 and was named publisher in 1988. There he built the magazine into one of the largest industrial food publications in the country. In 1998, he decided to take on the challenge of redesigning and reorganizing Pizza Today into the magazine you see today. In 2000, Pete was named President of Macfadden Protech LLC, where he is now overseeing International Pizza Expo, Pizza Today, the National Association of Pizzeria Operators (NAPO) and the newly launched School of Pizzeria Management.

Pete is also a founding member of the National Restaurant Association's newly formed Pizzeria Council. This council's goal is to increase the success rate of independent pizzerias. Over the next few years, the council will be developing tools and resources for pizzerias to use in order to find solutions and opportunities for their businesses.

Mandy Detwiler
Managing Editor
Mandy joined Pizza Today as managing editor in 2004 after a five-year stint covering real estate and construction for the local daily newspaper and says pizza is way better than lumber, blueprints and housing contracts. Mandy holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Murray State University (go, Racers!), in Murray, Kentucky, where she double-majored in Print Journalism and Criminal Justice. She received a Masters of Science degree in The Administration of Justice in 2003 from the University of Louisville.

Mandy met her husband, Bill, on a school service-learning trip to the small island of Barbados, and they have one precocious daughter, Bella (you’ll occasionally spot her among the pages of Pizza Today!). Their house is also home to two cats and one lazy lhasa apso.

When she’s not hammering away on the keyboard in her office, you’ll likely find her with her credit card in hand at the local shopping mall –– she’s our resident shopping expert! She also enjoys wine, musical theater, a good book, her knitting needles (even though scarves are about the extent of her knitting expertise) and frequent trips to Walt Disney World.

Rick Daugherty
Creative Director
Rick joined Pizza Today in 1995. Prior to his time with Pizza Today, Rick ran a freelance art direction/production business called Old Dog, New Tricks Graphics. He also held the position of Senior Art Director with both Franklin Ross + Associates and K. Shaver Advertising. A 1976 graduate of Herron School of Art/Indiana University, Purdue University at Indianapolis (IUPUI), Rick has a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Visual Communications with a minor in Photography. He says his favorite thing about his job at Pizza Today is: “I worked the agency and studio side of the creative business for nearly 20 years before coming here and I just didn’t get the same satisfaction and variety out of promoting cars or paint or medical services that I do with pizza. Pizza isn’t boring — just when I think I’ve seen the best or strangest topping combination ever, someone invents a new one! So our subject matter is always changing, which keeps my work fresh and entertaining. I’m very proud to be a part of our magazine and our trade show. Since I signed on with PT, our goal has been to produce a trade publication that doesn’t LOOK like a common, boring trade pub — we strive to make it look more like a quick-reading, highly-informative consumer publication. That seems to be working very well. Probably the thing I enjoy most about my job is traveling the country and meeting those of you in the pizzerias we select for our monthly interviews. I’m an Army brat, so I’ve lived all over the U.S. and spent 6 years overseas, living in France, Germany and England and touring most of Europe. As a result, travel is in my blood.”

Rick lives in southern Indiana with his wife Sue, their three pugs and a host of other critters. Rick and Sue have three grown daughters/son-in-laws and four grandchildren. Outside of work, Rick enjoys building, flying (and wrecking) radio-controlled airplanes and is an avid cook, reader, bonsai artist, photographer and antique collector. Rick and Sue are also both black belts in the martial art of Taekwondo. Sue owns/operates a dog grooming salon in south central Indiana.
